Tab Artis
Attorney
Tab Artis became an attorney the old-fashioned way: he read the law in the solitude of the early morning hours before work as a full-time paralegal, and late into the night after his family had gone to bed. Despite having never enrolled in law school, Mr. Artis fulfilled the requirements of the California State Bar, and did what few think or even dare to do: sit for the California Bar Exam without having attended law school. Between November 1997 and November 2007, only eight people had taken the California Bar Exam without a law degree and passed on the first try. Tab is one of those eight people.
Prior to passing the Bar, Tab worked seven years as a litigation paralegal for a boutique construction litigation firm in Pasadena, then worked as an Associate for that same firm. In April 2010, he opened his own civil litigation practice focused on representing plaintiffs in personal injury, wrongful death, landlord-tenant, partnership, business and contract disputes, construction litigation, and bankruptcy.
Tab established The Artis Law Firm in 2018 to focus his entire legal practice on helping individuals and families find the security and peace of mind that comes from a wisely designed and well-crafted estate plan, to help them protect their wealth and their loved ones from the devastating emotional and legal effects of disability and death.
Tab is a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys and was appointed in 2022 to serve a three-year term on the organization’s Board of Governors.
Tab donates his time to service in his church and other community service organizations. Having served a two-year church mission to Colombia, South America, Tab speaks fluent Spanish. In addition to being an attorney and business-owner, Tab is a singer, musician, and hula dancer. He and his wife love movies and traveling, are avid readers, and are the proud parents of four children and five grandchildren.

Ryan Harvey
Attorney
Ryan Harvey has been practicing law in California since 1999, but he’s been coaching volleyball even longer – since 1993! He still finds time to pursue both passions, along with the job that keeps him busiest: trying to keep up with his wife, four children, and two grandchildren.
His legal experience includes stints at law firms of all sizes, including one of the largest defense firms in the United States where for almost 20 years he represented stockbrokers, attorneys, real estate agents and insurance brokers in professional negligence matters, as well as insurance companies in bad faith lawsuits, and municipalities and law enforcement officers in federal civil rights actions. He also spent many years representing victims of child sex abuse. This broad and varied background gives him unique perspective into both sides of civil and probate disputes and how best to structure a case, whether suing or being sued. Additionally, he has handled multiple appeals, class actions, coordinated cases, and various other complex matters in both state and federal courts and in arbitration forums throughout the United States.
Somehow, between lawyering, coaching, and family time, Ryan still manages to travel, SCUBA dive, and backpack. Every summer he plans a 50-mile backpacking trip designed to take him as far off the grid as possible.
Reported appellate decisions: Mathis v. Metro. Life Ins. Co., 12 F.4th 658 (7th Cir. 2021) [drafted respondent’s brief]; County Inmate Telephone Service Cases (2020) 48 Cal.App.5th 354); Watts v. Oak Shores Community Assn. (2015) 235 Cal.App.4th 466.

Christine Artis
Office Administrator and Lead Paralegal
Christine Artis provides legal and administrative support to her husband Tab and the entire team at The Artis Law Firm. She has over forty years of experience in customer service and has been a legal paraprofessional since 2010. Her administrative skills were honed running an active household of four busy children, serving 19 years in the PTA at her childrens’ elementary school, and 7 years as the Assistant Office Manager for her childrens’ high school marching band.
Christine is an avid reader and despite long workdays and a busy home life somehow finds time to read at least one book per week. Her greatest joys, though, come from being a mother of four grown children and a grandmother to five wonderful grandkids.

Melissa Popham
Paralegal
When Melissa Popham isn’t helping clients navigate the legal process at The Artis Law Firm, there’s a good chance she’s on the mat training jiu jitsu. That same discipline and focus she brings to her training carries over to her work as a Paralegal, where she specializes in court processes and litigation support. From preparing filings and managing deadlines to coordinating with courts and making sure nothing falls through the cracks, Melissa handles the behind-the-scenes details that allow the firm’s attorneys to do what they do best. Most weekends, though, you’ll find her on the sidelines cheering on her kids at their wrestling matches.

Desirae Calkins
Legal Assistant
Before joining The Artis Law Firm, Desirae spent seven years teaching English and Math to middle schoolers, which means she has the patience of a saint and genuinely enjoys helping people on an individual level. That same caring spirit carries over to her work as our Legal Assistant. She spends much of her time on the phone with clients, and many find her to be the sympathetic ear of the firm.
At home, Desirae and her husband stay busy with three kids, which mostly means mediating makeshift sword fights and wrestling matches between stories about dragons, construction trucks, and princesses. She freely admits she has the hobbies of an 80-year-old: puzzles, quilting, cross stitching, and baking. When she does get a quiet moment to herself, she reaches for cozy murder mysteries and thrillers. Above all else, eating good food is her favorite activity.

Madison Artis
Bookkeeper
Madison Artis is our bookkeeping expert, but he was a music expert first. He earned his undergraduate degree in trombone performance, though his musical talents weren’t limited to brass – he also excelled at strings and percussion. A facility with numbers and a gift for meticulous organization led him to obtain a Master’s in Professional Accountancy from California State University, Northridge. After gaining experience in public accounting with audit and client accounting services, Madison founded Artis Bookkeeping in 2025, specializing in bookkeeping and advisory services for law firms and small businesses.
These days, Madison is settling into his newest (and most demanding) role: being a dad. When he’s not crunching numbers, he enjoys spending time with his family of three and going on neighborhood walks with the dogs.

Jade Jones
Social Media Specialist
Jade Jones, her husband, four kids, and their Great Dane (who’s roughly the size of a small cow) have called Utah, Virginia, Georgia, California, and even Rotterdam home at various points. All that moving around sparked a passion for helping families explore new cultures, which she does through her own website while also helping small businesses build their social media presence.
Jade brings more than 15 years of social media experience to The Artis Law Firm team, along with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and an adventurous spirit that shows up in everything she does. When she’s not working, you’ll find her dancing, reading, cooking, spending time outdoors, or planning her family’s next adventure.

Dane Artis
Firm Technology Coordinator
Dane Artis provides the Artis Law Firm with technical support and handles basic IT functions while he works toward the completion of his degree in Computer Science. Dane enjoys programming, learning about electronics, and building computers when he can. His hobbies and interests include cycling, PC gaming, live streaming and content creation.
